MID-COLUMBIA CAR CLUB

MEETING MINUTES

April 16, 2013

Tonight’s meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by President Steve Hudson at Spooky’s in The Dalles, immediately followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. OFFICERS PRESENT: All Officers present with the exception of the Membership/Webmaster Chairman. INTRODUCTIONS: New members, Dan Williams, (‘49 Stude), & John & Luanna Bishop, (‘37 Stude & ‘62 Chev Impala) were introduced along with longtime member Charlie Hore (‘48 Chev). Welcome, & we hope to get better acquainted with all of you. GUESTS: None. GOOD of the ORDER: Con Kilian had another amusing story for the group. TREASURER’S REPORT: Kathy Shebley-Kilian reported on the bank balance & has 3 member checks yet to deposit. A sizeable deposit has been paid on the tee shirt order. It was moved & seconded to approve the Treasurer’s report as given. Motion approved. MINUTES of the PREVIOUS MEETING: It was moved & seconded to approve the minutes of the March meeting as written in the April Cruiser. Motion passed. CORRESPONDENCE: None. MEMBERSHIP REPORT: The Club now has 104 members with 51 present tonight. HEARTS & FLOWERS: Theron Keller thanked everyone for all the cards & flowers sent to Donna. We were pleased that Donna was able to be with us tonight. Prez Steve reports that Sharon Rumsey, widow of John Rumsey of Johnny’s Automotive, plans to continue to run the business with the mechanics who have been working there for some time. It was suggested that Club members continue to support them if possible. TECH TIPS/SHOP RECOMMENDATIONS: None. CARS & PARTS FOR SALE: Bob Earls is still seeking a good home for his VW convertible. John Bishop has a ‘56 Chev 2 door Wagon for sale. EVENT REPORTS (Past): The Portland Swap Meet was attended by several members. Harrison Bowlds reports the purchase of 2 hot dogs as the only things he found there that he needed. UPCOMING EVENTS: The show in Redmond is April 20th. April 27th is The Dalles Cherry Festival with reserved spots for those participating in the parade. The Progressive dinner will be on Sunday, April 28th, 2 PM. Gayle McElheran will coordinate the event. Details will be provided by email. A cruise to the Lilac Gardens in Woodland, WA, is planned for May 4th with the Coles as tour leaders. Departure will be from Lone Pine McDonald’s at 8:30 AM with the first stop being in Lyle for the monthly Lions breakfast. A picnic lunch is suggested for eating at the Gardens. May 4th is also the day of the Sandy Suburban show. May 12th will be the Mother’s Day brunch with Bob Peickert making the arrangements, TBA. On May 18th (Saturday) Theron Keller is requesting participants to help with a “deck raising/ramp building” event at his & Donna’s home. The annual Wasco show is set for Memorial Day, May 27th, with plans to have breakfast there upon arrival. CRUISE the GORGE REPORT: Mark Fortin had several items to report to the Club. Raffle items, especially those with a higher value, are still being sought. Columbia State Bank will not be a sponsor this year & that spot needs to be filled. The cooler bags given to entrants, will be purple. Tee shirt colors were shown & the shirts may be ready by the end of April. It is yet uncertain who will sponser the dash plaques since it had been Johnny’s Automotive in the past. The Goldendale Club has put in a request for new Hot Wheels cars for their event. John Bishop has offered some that he has. The Friday night cruise is going to be a closed cruise from 7 to 9 PM. Mark asked for a show of hands as to how many would be willing to help “police” the closed areas & it appears there will be enough volunteers. Contact Mark is you are able to help. OLD BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: It was suggested that since we honor Mother’s Day with a brunch, that Father’s Day, June 16th this year, should also be celebrated in some manner. The subject to be discussed further at the May meeting. DRAWING: Names drawn tonight were Scott Ward & Bill Harrington both of whom were not present. The third name drawn was that of John May who was in attendance & went home with a check for $80.00. May’s drawing will be in the amount of $20.00. ADJOURNMENT: Meeting was adjourned at 6:35 PM.
