MID-COLUMBIA CAR CLUB

MEETING MINUTES

March 19, 2013

 

President Steve Hudson called the meeting to order at 6 PM at Spooky’s in The Dalles, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. OFFICERS PRESENT:  All Officers were present. INTRODUCTIONS:  Member Bob Alexander joined us tonight & was introduced to those not acquainted with him.  GUESTS:  None.  GOOD of the ORDER:  Con Kilian shared a couple of amusing stories with the group. TREASURER’S REPORT:  Kathy Shebley-Kilian reported on the bank balance.  It was moved & seconded to approve the report as given.  Motion approved.  MINUTES of the PREVIOUS MEETING:  It was moved & seconded to approve the minutes of the February meeting as printed in the March Cruiser.  Motion approved. CORRESPONDENCE:  A thank you note was received & read, from The Dalles Wahtonka High School auto mechanics class, for the Club’s recent donation of $500.00, to them.  MEMBERSHIP REPORT:  Chairman Dale Coles reports there are now 98 paid members.  Thirty-eight attended tonight’s meeting. HEARTS & FLOWERS:  Donna Keller is at OHSU in Portland with surgery scheduled for this Thursday.  Our prayers go out to her & Theron, & we hope they’ll be able to join in Club activities again before too long.  Jim Dennis thanked the Club for the card sent in sympathy upon the recent death of his father.  TECH TIPS/ SHOP RECOMMENDATIONS:  John Kiser had good things to say about Johnny’s Automotive regarding recent repairs to his pickup.  It was also mentioned within the group, that modern oil is not good for flat tappet cams & to beware.  Extended-life anti-freeze was another item not recommended for older engines. RECENT ARRIVALS:  Bob Alexander, member from Dufur, was proudly showing his recently acquired light blue ’57 T-Bird tonight.  CARS & PARTS FOR SALE: A Studebaker engine is for sale but the Secretary neglected to write down the seller’s name. EVENT REPORTS:  Several members & their vehicles went to the St. Patrick’s Day show in Heppner.  Sam Bilyeu brought home the “Fat Fender” Trophy from that show.  A number of members went to the Portland Roadster Show this past weekend. UPCOMING EVENTS:  March 23rd is the Annual Pie Social at Sam Bilyeu’s at 1 PM. April will see the annual The Dalles Cherry Festival, a Second Saturday Event featuring Studebakers at WAAM  & the big Swap Meet at the Expo Center in Portland.  Check the Cruiser Calendar for dates.  CRUISE the GORGE REPORT:    Mark Fortin brought us up to date on the progress for the annual CTG show.  A new trophy list has been drawn up eliminating a few categories.  We will be doing the ‘goody bags’ this year.  Kiser’s passed out voting slips tonight with 5 tee shirt slogans for Club members to vote on.  Dash plaques will be given to CTG show entrants but not as many as in the past.  Details for a closed cruise on Friday night are still being hashed out.  Flaggers, signage & volunteers for helping direct the activity are still being considered.  Flyers advertising the show are available for distribution.  Flyers will also be inserted in a NW car magazine.  The next CTG meeting will be April 2nd at Griffith Honda.  OLD BUSINESS:  Contributions from the Club, from proceeds of the 2012 CTG show, went to The Dalles Wahtonka High School auto mechanics class, Camp Baldwin Boy Scout Camp & Dufur Fire & Ambulance Service.  NEW BUSINESS:  None.  DRAWING:  Names drawn tonight for $60.00 were Dean, Tibbets & McElheran, in that order, none of whom were present.  The amount for April’s drawing will be $80.00.  ADJOURNMENT:  The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 PM.
